Orientation and Mobility Specialist - School

Job Summary:

We are looking for a talented Orientation and Mobility Specialist with School experience to work at an educational facility in University Place, Washington. This is an excellent opportunity to build upon your O&M skills while advancing your career. The job will entail teaching individuals with visual impairments to travel safely, confidently and independently in their environment. You care about people and strive to help each maximize his or her potential. You possess excellent communication skills, a supportive mindset, and the inclination to work with the designated age group(s).

Job Responsibilities:

• Accurately assess and identify student needs and functioning level related to orientation and mobility.
• Plan, design and implement individualized instructional programs using materials and equipment appropriate for student needs.
• Incorporate both school and residential program instruction as deemed appropriate to ensure student progress.
• Develop appropriate Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives, and recommend accommodations.
• Monitor students’ progress using appropriate methods and criteria in the areas of curriculum, assessments, and IEP goals.

Job Requirements:

• Certified as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist
• Current BLS/CPR certification
• 6 months of experience within the last 5 years
